Automated Health Assessment and Intervention in Your (Smart) Home

The increasing number of adults with chronic health conditions is a challenge our society must address. Because the idea of smart environments is now a reality, we can focus on scaling smart homes and data mining techniques to address the goal of improving quality of life and health care delivery for these individuals. In this talk, data mining advances are introduced that aid with automated smart home-based health monitoring and intervention. The advances are described in the context of the CASAS smart home and the resulting challenges faced when employing data mining techniques in these complex, real-world applications are discussed.
